From international airports to Lausanne

If travelling by plane you will most likely fly into Geneva Airport (GVA) or Zurich Airport (ZRH).
Please note that the nearest airport to Lausanne is Geneva (GVA).

Getting to Lausanne by Train

From Geneva Airport to Lausanne
The train station is directly at the airport: Exit customs hall and turn left. At the far end of the hall, pass through rotating doors into the train station. Ticket machines are centrally located. The ticket office is on your right. The journey to Lausanne takes approximately 45 minutes and train departures are every 20 minutes.

From Zurich Airport to Lausanne
The journey from Zurich Airport to Lausanne takes 2 hours and 45 minutes. We advise you to take a direct or Intercity train.

Getting to Lausanne by Car

From Zurich, Bern and Geneva Airport:
Take highway N° A1 direction Lausanne.

To reach EPFL follow Lausanne-Sud and exit the highway at “EPFL”.

To reach IMD follow Lausanne-Sud. At the end of the highway is a roundabout. Exit the roundabout in the direction “Ouchy”. Continue for 1km and you will see IMD on your left and an open parking lot on your right. You can park your car here for 5. – CHF per day. If you prefer covered parking, the Navigation parking lot is 40m further down the road, directly opposite the Moevenpick Hotel. The Moevenpick Hotel also has an underground parking.

Getting to Lausanne by Taxi

Should you prefer to book a taxi from the airport to Lausanne, please send an email to Virginie with all your flights details and it will be arranged for you. A one way trip cost CHF220.

Getting to IMD

IMD is located in Ouchy, the Southern part of Lausanne.

By Public Transport

Please note that at check-in for your hotel you can obtain a free pass for Lausanne public transport for the duration of your stay.

From Lausanne train station or from the city center you take the Metro M2 direct line in direction “Ouchy” (this is the final stop). Exit the Metro at “Ouchy”. From there it is a 10 minute walk to IMD. When you exit the metro station in Ouchy, turn right and walk for 800 meters on Avenue de Rhodanie (main street along the lake), you will then see IMD on your right.

By Taxi

The taxi journey from Lausanne train station to IMD takes approximately 5-10 minutes and costs about CHF 15.

Parking

Please note that unfortunately there is no parking available on the IMD campus. Here is a list of convenient parking spaces around IMD:

Outdoor parking, located near the lake, next to the P+R parking.
Price: CHF 6 per/day
Please note that you need coins to obtain your ticket at the cash machine. Payment must be made daily.

P+R
Park + Ride, outdoor parking, located near the lake, in front of IMD.
Price: CHF 10 per/day (24 hours)
This ticket gives you free access to public transport in Lausanne. Please note that you will need coins to obtain your ticket at the cash machine.

Parking du Port d’Ouchy
Indoor parking, located near the lake, in front of the Mövenpick Hotel.
Price: approx. CHF 15 per day (24 hours)

Getting to EPFL

By Public Transport (Metro, M1)

Please note that at check-in for your hotel you can obtain a free pass for Lausanne public transport for the duration of your stay.

Basically, two lines of metro (m1 and m2) connect the city centre to EPFL. It is very simple. If you come from the south lake district or from the main station, you will be able to catch the metro m2 until the stop “Flon”, and from ‘Flon’, change to metro line m1 which takes you directly to EPFL (stop ‘EPFL’).

If your hotel is located in town, simply get to the metro station called ‘Flon’ and catch the m1 from there to ‘EPFL’.

By Car

On the motorway, follow direction “Lausanne-Sud”, exit “EPFL”.

Parking places (paying) for visitors are available under l’Esplanade, and along the Avenue Piccard. Car parks indicated by the green “P” symbol are reserved for holders of a special card.

On Campus

Thursday’s registration will take place at the ‘Polyvalente’ hall at EPFL. The building is at a 5 minutes walking distance from the EPFL metro station. Take the Ch. de la Sorge (main road parallel to the metro line) and turn right on Avenue Piccard. Follow this street for ca 100m, then take the stairs on either side of the street up to the first level.  Turn to your left if you face the lake (turn to the right when facing the metro line) and enter the building (CM – Centre Midi). The first hall is Polyvalente (refer also to the map).

Generally, the EPFL campus is walkable. Don’t hesitate to use the orientation tool to locate a building, place or person on the site. You can also find information concerning the route to take to get from one place to another.
